When I was taking pictures of my knitting a few days ago, the cat woke up from where he had been napping nearby to see what I was up to, and I decided to take some pictures of him.

He's... not a very co-operative model.

He's lucky he's cute. )

I sent out a job application last night, yay for me.

I do really hate job hunting, and it doesn't get any easier.

Things I'm going to do once I get home tonight:
- Finish the SSB*B boys story (it still needs to be edited, but I can do that later)
- Work on more of the hipster scarf (Is it just me or does that model look like [info]smurfmatic?)

Speaking of the scarf I really need to sit down and write up how to do a cast-on for double knitting that doesn't look like ass.

Yet another reason why I wish I had a camera: I put the entrelac scarf on my cat when it was finished, and he just sat there and purred. (The colours went very well with his fur XD)

Muffins count as dinner, right?

Yay, I finished my entrelac scarf.

It only took me, what, three weeks to finish? Truly, I am the world's slowest knitter.

I've only the (many, many) ends to weave away, and then I can... wait until fall to wear it XD I also finished sewing together the Seekrit Project, so there's that done too.

The scarf is about two and a half feet long, twenty-four stitches wide and made up of twenty-seven tiers of three 8-stitch wide blocks each. I used two yarns of different gauge (mostly because it's what I had to hand); the thicker one was pink and made of a merino/cashmere blend, and the finer yarn was made of angora (yes, this is the bunny yarn my cat tried to eat) and a dark, almost eggplant purple colour that looked brown beside the pink.

(And speaking of the cat, when he was outside today, some of the upstairs neighbours' laundry nearly fell on him. He doesn't like it when they have stuff on the laundry lines on the best of days, and I doubt being nearly devoured alive by a dreaded Drop Bedsheet really improved his opinion. His tail went all puffy; it was so funny.)

STUPID CAT YARN IS NOT FOR EATING

(Though in defense of His Pea-Brain-ness, it was yarn made from bunny fur...)

I'm making an entrelac scarf from some yarn I had lying around (one ball of which was the bunny yarn the cat mistook for a snack). And let me tell you -- don't do entrelac with dark, fuzzy yarn. The stitches all blur together unless you knit at a ridiculously large gage, and all the stitch-picking-up that has to be done in entrelac becomes difficult when you can't make out what you're supposed to pick up.

I like entrelac (except for picking up stitches, I hate picking up stitches), it's easy once you get the hang of it and repetitive without being boring. I got the idea from the spring '06 issue of Interweave Knits, which had a big, long tutorial on entrelac.

(It also had a pattern for a pair of very pretty blue and silver entrelac socks, which looked like they'd be fun to knit, but I have no idea what one could wear them with without looking silly.)

This week sucks.

Not only is Pookie still sneezing, but now he's lethargic and being fussy about his food.

Mom is going to take him to the vet's as soon as she can make an appointment.

Cat worries

Hey cat people!

Recently, I put my fat cat on a diet. He was at 20 lbs when I put him on it (and all I did was reduce the amount of food he gets to ¼ cup of the dry stuff in the morning and the same at night), and so far he's managed to lose two pounds after the same number of months. Which is good. But.

I got to thinking that the food itself might not be all that healthy for him, and that might be what's making him such a flubby-gut. And I read the ingredients list, and it gives me the willies. I don't know what half that stuff is.

He eats Science Diet, and seems to love it, but I don't want him eating the kitty equivalent of McDonalds'.

If that isn't healthy, then can anyone tell me what is? I want Pookie to live a good, long time.

A stupid pet story, for your reading pleasure.

I put the cat outside a few hours ago, and it was raining a bit. Not very much, just a little drizzle.

And my cat, my cat who howls when you bring him anywhere near running water, my cat who gallops to the other end of the house when you turn on the water in the kitchen, my cat who hides in the bushes when our neighbours turn on their sprinklers, my cat DID. NOT. NOTICE.

*facepalm*

Because of the job interview yesterday, and the massive headache I woke up with this morning (and which didn't completely go away until six in the evening -- yes, I am stupid about thinking to take painkillers), I haven't been able to get any work done on my BL story. I still have to finish it, and there's a list of changes I want to make, too.

Isis, I hope you don't mind if I get it to you by Sunday :/

Adventures in the Outdoors

So it appears we have a wasps' nest under the eaves of our backyard shed.

And it's right near where the cat sits at the end of his leash* when he's put outside. He knows it's there, too. The only reason I noticed it was because he was trying to climb the wall of the shed to get at it.

He's none too happy that he had to stay inside tonight.

So until we can go to Canadian Tire tomorrow to get wasp killer**, our only defense is the home-made wasp trap I made from instructions found on the inertwebs.

Yes, we are protected from the Bad, Bad Wasps by a Coke bottle with the top cut off and stuck in upside down. (I'm going to check it before we go out to the West island tomorrowlater today to see if it caught anything.)

In totally unrelated news, my story for [info]bb_shousetsu is still not done, but there was an extension, so I am safe. Hell, I might even see if I can bang heh heh out the story I was planning on writing for the next issue before Sabina sprang this whole 'theme' thing for October on us.

I should go to bed soon. My sleep schedule is all fuXXored up and this is not helping.

* He's too dumb to be allowed to walk around loose.

** Mom is allergic, so we can't just live and let live. And I don't want to find out whether or not I'm allergic to wasp stings, either.

Dear cat,

You cannot go outside. It is too hot, and you would bake like a little kitty muffin.

Stop howling. Stop trying to climb through the blinds. Stop playing with the blinds. Leave my laundry alone. Stop pawing at things on the floor.

Get your stinky butt out of my room, and take a nap!

Love,
The one whose bed you sleep on.

My cat found a mouse in the garden today.

No, he's too stupid to have killed it, and I rescued it before he could do anymore damage.

Bloody idiot. What kind of a hunter *are* you?
